Name of character: Cathad of Greywood
Nicknames: not applicable
Age: 61 (middle-aged in human standards)
Sex: male
Height: 5'11"
Species/Race: Half-elf (Druid/ranger)
Description/Appearance: He has gray hair, a family trait, and deep dark green
eyes, which resemble the forest, who he worships. He has a well-trimmed
goatee and moustache. He has a slender body of the elves, but the
toughness of the humans.
Background: Cathad was born in Greywood, a small settlement that
was founded by his grandfather, Lord Gavin Greywood. Cathad was oldest
of two brothers. His father, Lord Petres Greywood, a high elven fighter
mage, had been murdered by the murderous Lord Deimos, who was underling
to the evil dark mage known only as the Necromancer. That left him to
protect his family. His mother, the great human mage Setra was deep in
mourning. He was always interested in magic and nature from an early age
and became a member of the Clan of the Owl; a sect of peaceful Ehlonna,
Silvanus, and Mielekki-worshiping druids who mostly train birds,
especially owls. He was given a small owl chick as his companion. He named
him Greywing, who helped him through out his life. One day when he was
gathering herbs, he heard screams from the druid camp and the settlement.
He rushed to the camp and looked in horror at the destruction. Goblins,
hobgoblins, and orcs with skull masks were killing everyone. In the middle of the fray, he saw Lord Deimos, now an undead, sitting on
his Nightmare. The young druid vowed revenge. When the enemy had left,
Cathad searched for any living people. He found several, but alas his
mother was slain. His young brother was petrified in fear. Cathad hugged
him and said everything would be fine. While he was paying respects for
the fallen druids, his old master and leader of the clan, an ancient
dwarf named Whitebeard the Old, hobbled up to him. He gave Cathad his
ancient staff and said with his last breaths, the secret powers of the
staff, the staff allows him to focus and empower his link with nature and
his spells and can be used to communicate with Whitebeard’s spirit,
soon will inhabit the staff. Then the wise dwarf died in peace. No longer
able to bear living here, he left with his young brother to his
father’s elven hometown where he left him in the care of the elves. Cathad
with his friend, Greywing, left the fair town of elves and went out to seek their fortune. Since he already knew many languages of his
fellow druids, such as common, dwarven, halfling, gnomish, sylvan,
undercommon, druidic, draconic, drow, orc, gnoll, lizard, and elemental, he had
no trouble in communicating with the species he met. He got several
more companions, Tawny the barn owl and Nightpaw the miniature owlbear. He
traveled with many adventurers. He finally found a true friend, a
lizardman war mage called Shaak’Lar. He is loyal to Cathad because he is in
life dept because Cathad healed him after a fight with a fire demon.
They are kindred spirits. They now travel the land, helping all those who
need help.
Abilities/Magicks: Like all druids, Cathad calls upon his deities and the
nature around him to cast spells, most of them elementally related and
has the ability to speak to animals, cannot be tracked, turn into
various animals, and can pass through natural obstacles, such as briars,
with ease.
Weapons/Items: Scimitar, Sickle, Staff of the Woodlands (Whitebeard’s
staff), Amulet of Companion Telepathy, and the Cloak of Elvenkind.
Nature/Alignment: Neutral Good
Special Notes: Cathad is mostly secluded but is willing to give
advice to his friends. On occasion, he makes cynical and sarcastic
remarks. He trusts only a few, those including his companions and Shaak’Lar.
